Laser welding explained:

Laser welding is an efficient and precise welding method that uses high-energy-density laser beams as heat sources for welding.Laser is a monochromatic, highly directional, bright beam produced by the amplification principle of stimulated radiation. After focusing through a lens or mirror, the diameter can be less than 0.1mm,energy beams with power densities up to 10¹²W/m² can be used as heat sources for welding.Laser welding can be achieved not only because the laser itself has high energy, but more importantly because the laser energy is highly focused on one point, making its energy density very high.

Laser Welding Types:

①Heat Conduction Welding:

When the material is irradiated with a lower laser power density and a longer time, the surface layer of the material begins to gradually melt. With the input energy and heat conduction, the liquid-solid interface migrates toward the interior of the material, and finally the welding process is realized.

②Keyhold Deep Penentration Welding

Similar to electron beam welding, the high-power-density laser beam causes local melting of the material and forms small holes. The laser beam penetrates deep into the molten pool through the small holes, forming a continuous weld as the laser beam moves. During continuous laser welding, the small hole advances along the welding direction as the beam faces the work piece. The metal melts in front of the small hole, and the deposited metal flows around the small hole to the rear and solidifies again to form a weld.
