The laser protection device is a special safety protection system that is used in conjunction with the hydraulic bending machine. As an upgraded device for light curtain protection, it greatly enhances the protection of human fingers when the bending machine bends the mold.Electric press brake are more widely used these days.How to protect the workers' hands safety is an important work.
MSD and DSP are two types of laser safety for electric press brake safety.They are from Italy company.
MSD laser safetyfor Electric Press Brake:
The photoelectrical safety device MSD is a single beam barrier with emission of visible laser which, within a more general control system, contributes to the protection of the
operator in the use of machinery including dangerous mobile parts controlled by electric or electro-mechanical devices.
Main task of MSD is to detect, within the limits defined by the device detection capability,the intrusion of any opaque physical elements inside the area defined as “detection area”,which is defined by the point of the emission of the laser beam generated by the transmitter up to the point of reception of the receiver of this device. The tool has been designed to disconnect, in case of danger, the power supply of the machine control devices and/or to activate functions which stop the motion of the dangerous parts.
These functions have been realized providing in output, via the contacts of the two
OSSD’s, two different electrical ON/OFF signals: the status ON corresponds to the
condition when the transmitter beam reaches collimated the receiver, while the status OFF corresponds to the lack of collimation between the two components (due, for instance, to the intrusion of an element into the detection area) or to the lack of power supply to MSD.
The OSSD outputs, properly inserted in the electric circuit for the command of the
machinery dangerous parts, enable the control of the machinery movement (in status
ON), or, vice versa, the capacity to inhibit or stop it (in status OFF).
Note that, anyway, the control of the procedure for the stop, suspension and reactivation of the machine is entrusted to the main control panel of the machine itself.
MSD laser safety Introduction:
Italy MSD laser protection prevents cnc press brake operators from danger due to the rapid movement of the press brake upper beam. MSD can be installed on the upper beam or lower beam workbench. In the area below the press brake punch tip, a pair of transmitting and receiving ends form a pair of laser beams, thus creating a detection area of one laser beam in the length direction of the bending machine. If any opaque obstruction enters under the upper tooling tip and interrupts the laser beam, the MSD will immediately send out a signal and stop the operation of the upper beam through the CNC system. It minimizes the occurrence of accidents during the production process and ensures safe and orderly production.
Technical parameters:
Class1M single point laser transmitter has a safety level of CAT.4 and SIL3 protection level of IP65. The system response time is 5MS, and the speed conversion point of the single sensor photoelectric receiver can reach a minimum of 5mm. The protection distance can reach a maximum of 15M. It is equipped with LED indicator lights to display various statuses.

MSD laser protection avoids the danger caused by the rapid movement of the upper beam of the Press brake operator. MSD can be installed on the upper beam or the lower beam of the machine tool.
A single visible laser beam is emitted from the transmitting end, and the receiving end receives the emitted beam, resulting in a detection area formed by a single laser beam that acts on the entire bending axis. If any opaque obstruction enters the area and interrupts the laser beam, MSD will immediately interrupt the signal and stop the operation of the equipment through the control system.
Any opaque obstruction that enters below the blade tip and interrupts the laser beam MSD will immediately send a signal and stop the operation of the upper beam through the CNC system.
Minimizing the occurrence of accidents during the production process to the greatest extent, ensuring safe and orderly production.
Light indicators: diagram and functions:
The MSD device is provided with some light indicators which allow the rapid identification
of its operating status. In detail, we can individuate the laser emission on the transmitter
(Fig. 2) and three LED’s on the receiver (Fig. 3).
Blue LED on the receiver
The led in status On indicates that the laser beam emitted by the transmitter,
hitting the reception area, can activate the two switching OSSD devices making
they stay in status ON, except for anomalies of the detected by the control and
monitoring circuit.
The led in status Off indicates that the laser beam emitted by the transmitter does
not hit the reception area.
Green LED on the receiver
The green led in status On, located on the right of the reception area, indicates the
active status of the two outputs OSSD1 and OSSD2. When the outputs are active
(status ON), the green led is On. When the outputs are in status OFF, the green led
is in status Off.
Red LED on the receiver
The red led in status On indicates that the power supply is connected to the
receiver
DSP Laser SafetyFor Electric Folding Machine:
The safety device DSP LASER is a visible laser emission guard which, inserted in a more general control system, contributes to protect the operator in the use of press brakes for the cold working of the metals and is constituted by:
· one transmitter DSP LASER TX powered at 24Vac or 24Vdc,
· one receiver DSP LASER RX powered at 24Vac or 24Vdc which moreover includes: the logic for the control of the operation modes, the function of automatic monitoring of the overtravel and the two solid-state outputs OSSD,
one DSP LASER AL module (optional) with a series of variations.
Each of them is enclosed within its own case.
The activation of the receiver is made possible only by the emission generated by the
transmitter, which is electrically connected to by the synchronism. An emission generated by an identical transmitter, but not electrically connected with the receiver, cannot activate it.
Main task of “DSP LASER” is detecting, within the limits defined by the detection capacity of the instrument, the intrusion of any opaque physical element into the “detection area”. The detection area can be defined as a “laser light solid” which starts from the transmitter and arrives to the receiver and whose section is represented in Fig. 9.1. The interruption of the laser beams illuminating the receiving elements, causes the detection of the occurred interruption. The detection of the interruption of one or more of the receiving elements is then managed by the system to issue or not the passage to state OFF of the OSSD outputs.
The device has been then designed to activate, in dangerous conditions, the functions for the stop of the movement of the dangerous parts.
The DSP laser safety protection device comprehensively protects the personal safety of cnc hydraulic bending machine operators and avoids dangers caused by the rapid movement of the press brake slider . A block-shaped protection area is formed for the bending machine top tool tip to protect the front, middle and rear areas.The aluminum profile bracket is easy to install and can be adjusted in multiple directions. It is equipped with a scale to adjust the position of the light curtain according to different heights of the mold.
There are three models for press brake DSP laser safety:
The protection system DSP LASER has been designed to protect the operator against the dangers due to the closing movement of the tools of a press-brake. The detection area is subdivided in a front area, a central area and a rear area. The front area forbids the squashing of the operator’s fingers between the front part of the punch and the die or the objects present in the movement area , while the rear area avoids the squashing between punch and rear mechanics.
1.Detection area fully active:
The normal sheet bending allows keeping the whole detection area active during thepress brake upper tool fast approaching . Even the bending of boxes can take place with the detection area fully active. In fact, it is sufficient to provide the press with the function of automatic stop at the reaching of the speed change point and to insert the piece between the tools only after the punch has come to a complete stop.
2.Front area in banking state and rear area excluded
This mode is for bending of special shape or size or pieces with very little size.
The operating mode 1 could result not applicable in case of bends with particular shape or pieces with very little size. In fact, the backgauges could intercept the rear area, as also it could be impossible to insert the piece, already partially bent, between the tools brought closer.
With the purpose to avoid these situations and, at the same time, to ensure the protection of the operator, the operating mode 2 can be set.This model is for bending sheet metal box ,steel box.
3.Rear area excluded
The press brake backgauges near the dies.
In some cases, the backgauges could intercept the rear protection area causing the stop of the press, even if the operator remains outside the dangerous area. To avoid this situation and protect the operator, the operating mode 3 can be set.
The operating conditions are identical to those of mode 1 with the only difference that the rear area is excluded.
The central and front protection areas are active, the obscuration of any receiving element of these areas causes the state OFF of the OSSD outputs and the consequent stop of the downstroke of the press-brake. For the operation of the machine, the consideration made for the operating mode 1 are valid.
