Press Brake Back Gauge Introduction

Manual press brake back gauge

Press brake is a specialized equipment used for bending sheet metal .Due to its simple operation and good process versatility,it is widely used in the sheet metal processing industry. The most crucial point in controlling the bending product accuracy lies in the press brake's backgauge.Today,we will discus how to adjust the backgauge of a CNC press brake.
Adjusting the press brake back-gauge of a press brake depends mainly on the type of CNC system your press brake is equipped with ,as well as whether it has a servo motor
or a frequency converter.Only these systems can adjust the speed.Generally ,the adjustment of the backgauge is done through the CNC system.such as the DA53T CNC system.
You can input the required valves into the CNC system, then click to run,and the backgauge will automatically move to the size you set. This is the adjustment of the backgauge from front to back.

If you need to adjust the backgauge from left to right or up and down.It depends on the type of system your press brake is equipped with ,such as the 3+1 axis electric hydraulic servo press

brake ,where the backgauge's left, right ,up and down must be amnually adjusted. However ,the 4+1 axis electric hydraulic servo press brake does not require manual adjustment ,as the backgauge's up and down can be adjusted through the CNC system, and the backgauge's left and right can be adjusted through the manuipulation rod on the foo pedal switch.

How to adjust a CNC press brake after bending error occurs:

When using a CNC press brake for work ,there is a high possibility of some usage errors. At this time, attention should be paid ,the press brake should be checked once it has a problem.

The first step in checking is to determine of the press brake's mold has any war or damage. If this phenomenon causes an error, you can replace the mold.

In the process of checking the CNC press brake ,if there is no damage ,check the parallelism of the slide and the worktable. If it does not meet the requirements, you can adjust it according to the relevant standard requirements to keep the parallelism within the allowable range.

Movement of the backgauge mechanism of the press brake

The backgauge mechanism of the press brake moves forward and backward using a DC servo motor(or an AC servo motor),whose rotational motion is transmitted to the ball screw via a toothed belt transmission ,and then becomes linear motion through the nut ,driving the drag plate and the backgauge rack along the guide axis.

Types of Press Brake Back gauge

1.NC Press Brake 1-Axis BackGauge With X Axis

Torsion bar press brake is a common types of bending machine ,and the back gauge is one of its key components. It is used to precisely position the sheet metal, ensuring bending accuracy.

The back gauge is a critical component of the Torsion Bar Press Brake. Proper use and maintenance can significantly improve production efficiency and product quality.

Functions of the Back Gauge

Positioning the Sheet Metal: The back gauge fixes the position of the sheet metal to ensure accurate bending lines.

Improving Efficiency: Automatically adjusts to reduce manual operations and enhance production efficiency.

Ensuring Precision: Maintains consistency in each bend, improving product quality.

Structure of the Back Gauge

Gauge Frame: The main structure supporting the gauge fingers.

Gauge Fingers: Directly contact the sheet metal to determine its position.

Drive Mechanism: Uses motors or hydraulic systems to adjust the position of the gauge fingers.

Control System: A CNC system that precisely controls the movement of the gauge fingers.

Working Principle of the Back Gauge

Input Parameters: Enter sheet metal dimensions and bending angles via the CNC system.

Automatic Adjustment: The drive mechanism adjusts the position of the gauge fingers based on the input parameters.

Positioning the Sheet Metal: The sheet metal is pressed against the gauge fingers to ensure accurate positioning.

Bending Operation: Perform the bending, after which the gauge fingers reset for the next operation.

Maintenance of the Back Gauge

Regular Lubrication: Reduces wear and extends lifespan.

Check Fasteners: Ensure all components are securely fastened.

Clean Gauge Fingers: Prevent debris from affecting accuracy.

System Calibration: Regularly calibrate to ensure precise positioning.

Common Issues and Solutions

Inaccurate Positioning of Gauge Fingers: Inspect the drive mechanism and control system, and recalibrate if necessary.

Gauge Fingers Moving Poorly: Check lubrication and clean or replace damaged parts.

Control System Malfunction: Inspect electrical connections and contact professional repair services if needed.
